The army said it has completed the rehabilitation of its forces in the two occupied territories and has established new front lines in the Gaza Strip, where its forces have been fighting with Palestinian factions in recent months.

In response, Hamas, which has the support of the United States and the European Union, condemned the move and called on the Israeli army to withdraw from the territories.

Hamas, which is based in the occupied West Bank, is the largest Palestinian group in the country and has waged a two-decade-long war with Israel, which it regards as illegitimate.

The Israeli military has accused the group of carrying out dozens of deadly attacks in the past five years, and it has killed at least 2,100 Palestinians since it took over the Gaza strip in 2007.

Since then, it has been accused of killing thousands of Palestinians in its military campaign in the Strip, including at least 50 civilians, and has committed war crimes and crimes against humanity.

It is not clear whether the Israeli military is moving forward with the rehabilitation process, which would include a new army chief and a fresh set of soldiers.

The rehabilitation process was announced after Israel launched Operation Protective Edge in Gaza in October to end the enclave’s Hamas movement, which Israel has deemed a terror group.
